Welcome
Top Of The Class is a hybrid course with 3 distinctive elements. Each child receives in-person tuition, as well as access to an online portal where they can work at their own pace. The online portal is monitored and can be used by the tutor to set assignments. The 3rd element is competitions and quizzes covering relevant subjects.
In Person
Our in person lessons take place in Cheadle. These classes are one hour long and cover all of the various elements of the 11 plus exam. We have space for 8 children, and have a ratio of 1:4 with a tutor and an assistant. Each child will have a computer provided, and all stationery, books and learning materials are included. Areas are taught separately and are split into the main areas of maths, english and non-verbal. The lessons usually start with diagnostic testing. This test may cover areas that your child is very comfortable with, and some areas where their knowledge is less so. These tests offer insight and the marks are not published. This will guide future lessons. The lesson is designed to be insightful and worthwhile, but equally important we try to make our lessons fun, and so we finish off with a competition. These vary and are team based not individual.
Online
Our online technology is provided by Century Tech. This is a market leading 11 plus application that uses ‘intelligent personalisation,’ This technology is provided to all children within the membership price. Not only will your child receive an excellent tailored online course. Century Tech can help to identify areas that require more attention from the tutor . As we teach multiple students we can anonymously benchmark scores compared to other children and create averages. The measurements are really useful for identifying a potential area that needs improvement.
Kahoot
We use Kahoot inside and outside of the classroom. Kahoot is an online platform but is really at its best when it is used in person. We use Kahoot in class to gauge knowledge and opinions. We can use assigned kahoots to measure scores and conduct collegiate work. Having all of the pupils’ ideas put forward in a ‘Word Cloud,’ or their views and opinions measured in polls is a really valuable resource to us. And also it is ‘fun.’ Away from the class these lessons and quizzes can be accessed online under your supervision.
